You're Going to Get Tired of the Mountains...We're Not

You may find it hard to believe, that on the first day of our vacation that we were not driving a full day, we chose NOT to sleep in. Because Tim and I both enjoy photography, and because the best light of the day while on the east side of a north-south running mountain range is dawn...we got up at dawn. Oxbow Bend, Snake River Overlook, Schwabacher Landing, and the Mormon Row Barns are all frequently photographed scenes in The Tetons. We thought we'd get to a couple this morning. We got to them all...and drove Moose-Wilson Road...and got down to Jackson to eat breakfast and walk the square...all by 11:30 a.m. It's amazing what you can get done when you wake up at dawn. On the way back to the Lodge, we did a little hiking, took scenic drives, stumbled upon views that are not on the tourist maps, and landed back in the upper lobby, where we sat and looked at the mountains some more.

One of the best things about being on vacation is that everything slows down. While we got up at dawn, it still wasn't a hurry-jump-in-the-shower-get-dressed-and-drive-to-work-get-up-at-dawn. I knew I would be spending this day (and the next "few") with my best friend, finding the beauty in God's creation, sharing the hobby of photography, talking about the little things and the big things. Those are the best kinds of days.

On the adventure side, we did have a relatively close encounter with buffalo on the road (see pics in the link to the right). That's about all we mustered up today. :) The rain made for a slow afternoon in the cottage. Tim slept; I sat with the windows open, listening to the rain.
