Never Before Experienced During a Branson Vacation

Let's see, if I counted up the days of our regional road trips, it would be...well...a lot. And of those days, you could count the amount of time I've driven in...minutes. Yes, you read that correctly...minutes. We have visited 49 of the 50 states, (Only in Alaska did neither of us drive.) and I can total up the amount of time I've driven to less than 60 minutes on an incredibly winding stretch of Pacific Coast Highway One...until today.

To backtrack, last night at 8:30 p.m., I finally convinced Tim that a quick visit to an urgent care to have that nasty cough checked out just might be a good idea the evening before a nine day stint away from home. If you've been to an urgent care lately, you know that there is no such thing as a quick visit. Two hours later, we on our way to the 24-hour Walgreen's to pick up a Z-pack. That nasty cough was diagnosed as bronchitis.

Which brings me back to the title of this post. In order to allow Tim to rest as much as he could, I drove the first five hours of the trip! That's pretty amazing for me. It's a good thing I knew I was driving to this:

Germantown Commissary was a wildcard BBQ pick for us. My friend Chris had it on his list to try (and Chris has a lot of BBQ spots under his belt). Germantown is a suburb of Memphis, so it was a little out of the way but well worth it. Tim and I both got a two meat plate--Tim the ribs and pulled pork, me the ribs and a hot link. The ribs were moist and tender with a salty rub. The pulled pork and hot links were both good as well. There were two sauces--a standard tangy tomato-based and one with a little heat. The sides were average but the slaw was welcomed to even out the salt of the rub.

Note: For pictures of Germantown Commissary check the link of today's date on the right of the blog.

Because we got a late start this morning, we got to Germantown around 3 o'clock. It's the only meal we'll eat in Memphis. I will miss Gus's chicken, but it's just how it goes.

As an aside, can I just speak to the deliciousness of McDonald's french fries when they are hot out of the fryer? I rarely eat at McDonald's. Let me explain, I am not a food snob. I love a greasy diner cheeseburger as much as the next person...maybe more. But there is only one thing on the McDonald's menu that draws me to those Golden Arches. Those fries. We stopped around noon because I needed caffeine. (Remember, I drove a whole five hours.) I almost took a picture of those delectable potato sticks then thought the better of it. If you don't know what McDonald's fries look like, you need to run to the nearest Mickey D's and get ya' some!

I love McDonalds fries also. I like reading your blog and just read your others from May, so this is my comment :) Good luck on the knee surgery!
