June 16, day 8
Verona was a cute little town. We saw the balcony of Juliet. (Yes, I know Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is fiction.) As you can tell my words are becoming fewer the more tired I get. :) After a quick visit in Verona, onward to Venice...whiiiiiich was flooding under high tides. The gondola ride would have to wait until tomorrow.
We heard the siren...but what does a siren mean to mid-westerners like us? Not a thing. We headed out to dinner on recommendation of the receptionist at our hotel. If we shouldn't have been wandering the streets, she would have told us, right? Nope...
We got to the restaurant with just one short jig and jog through some back "alleys." When we got there and asked for a table, the host looked at us kind of funny then looked back at the canal. In Italian with some great hand gestures, he showed us on his leg, just how high the water was going to get. The only way we could get back to the hotel if we ate dinner there was by boat and that was if the boat would even dock. We turned tail and worked our way back to the hotel like this:
Those sirens? To warn people of the coming high tide! We made it home safely and had a great dinner at the hotel.
