A Short Visit and The Most Amazing Meal I've Ever Eaten

Today, I got to spend a few hours with with the person who, outside of my husband, probably knows my heart better than anyone I know. Sometimes we go years without seeing each other, but this summer, I got to see Teri twice--once when she was on her way home from her family vacation a couple of weeks ago, and today as we head out on our family vacation. I met her grandbaby Isaac--cuter than a button and all boy! I watched her sweet daughter serve her sweet momma by occupying Isaac while Teri and I got a chance to chat--good, good stuff!

After our brief visit, we headed to Hotel Sorella, where we'll be spending the evening, and freshened up to go to dinner. My friend Grace made a recommendation for dinner at bluestem--an absolutely phenomenal restaurant. James Beard award winner Colby Garrelts is at the helm, and indeed was in and out of the kitchen tonight, but the real work was done by chef de cuisine, Andrew Longres. I can say it was truly the best meal I've ever eaten.

I will not go into detail about each course, but if you would like to see pictures and descriptions, take a look at the link to the right for today (July 8). I will go into detail about my favorite dish of the night--the ricotta tortellini. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente filled with a flavorful ricotta with a braise rabbit and corn as well as almonds and an herb breadcrumb that lent a fresh but crunchy addition. There were other single bites that might have been better. (Tim's favorite overall dish was the tortellini, but his favorite bite was the bay scallop.) I'm not sure if I could chose my favorite bite. The dessert courses were both unbelievable.

The service was impeccable--not fussy but very attentive. When I asked if, in lieu of the birthday celebration of a small shooter of berry sherbet and a fizzy champagne-like drink I could have my picture taken with the chef, I was invited behind the counter of the open kitchen. Awesome!

Tomorrow, we will be making up time and driving all day, either landing in Denver or Cheyenne.

The food was absolute artwork! If it tasted half as good as it looked, it had to be memorable. Loved the plates that 2 of the desserts were served on. And how fun to get that picture taken--for the chef! Enjoy your drive across the flatest place in country! Well, at least in the midwest!
Your babies are doing well, no hail damage. Had to go out and calm them down after the storm. They're working on their self-soothing skills
