One Last Post for the 2012 Roadtrip

No surprise here--even on the last day of travel, almost home, we found a great place to eat. There has been much talk about Oklahoma Joe's in a Kansas City gas station. Who knew the first couple of Oklahoma Joe's were in...Oklahoma! We were looking for a lunch spot in Oklahoma City. Tim was in the mood for barbeque (again), and I couldn't argue. He found Oklahoma Joe's. I said, "Hey, the Oklahoma Joe's in K.C. is supposed to be really good. I wonder if it's run by the same folks?" Tim got on his trusty phone and found out it was--bonus stop for barbeque!

The brisket was no where near as good as Franklin's The pulled pork at Pappy's in St. Louis is better, but the ribs? Oh, the ribs were heavenly--better than the ribs in Memphis (Interstate and Rendezvous), better than the ribs in St. Louis (Pappy's and Super Smokers) might I say, the best I've had. The sides were better than average as well--a spicy coleslaw, baked potato salad, and baked beans with three different beans and lots of different seasonings.

And...after being in Texas for several days, we didn't eat Blue Bell ice cream until we got to Missouri. Missouri, you say? Yep. Missouri. Turns out, Russell Stover's outlets have Blue Bell ice cream. Guess what we had for dinner? We couldn't take pictures because we were too busy trying to eat the ice cream before it melted.

So, for the last post and thought of the 2012 road trip, I leave you with this. There's no place like home. I spent the day getting caught up with a good friend and restocking our fridge. Tim picked several tomatoes last night, and several today. I went to the farmer's market, fish market, and grocery store. Tonight, we had fresh mozzarella, homegrown tomatoes and basil on polenta with a drizzle of California olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dinner.

We're still not sure about next year, but I'm sure it will include a trip (albeit short) of some kind. Thanks for reading and we'll see you all soon.
