In one day. That's how far we traveled. 650 miles. Can I just say that west Texas is ridiculous. It's worse than the wheat fields of Kansas. It's worse than the cornfields of Illinois. It goes on forever and ever. And I swear I saw tumbleweed. Okay, maybe not, but it's only because I slept part of the way, and I think I missed it. But that's okay. We got to Carlsbad Caverns by 3:00 p.m., or was it 2:00 p.m.? We moved into mountain time, so I'm not sure. But we got there.
Other-worldly is the only way I can describe it. See the pictures by linking to July 5, 2012, on the right.
On the way out of San Antonio, I suggested that we have breakfast tacos for...well, for breakfast (duh). Before we knew it, we were out of San Antonio and thought we had missed it. Little did we know, as we stopped for gas before heading into no-man's land, that we would run into this.
Where we got these.
These came in this.
And quite frankly, they were the best breakfast tacos I've ever eaten--chorizo and egg cooked up together, put in a freshly made flour tortilla, then wrapped in aluminum foil. They served a hot sauce/salsa in little plastic cups that was flavorful and HOT! They were yummy! The rest of the day trail mix, Pringles, and McDonalds. : ) It was a good day.
Oh yeah, there was a down pour that caused some serious flooding in Carlsbad (the town). It was a little nerve-racking!
