More Good Stuff

We were hesitant to visit the three other national parks in Utah after experiencing Zion and Bryce. Both of these parks were unbelievable, and we weren't sure what to expect at Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, and Arches National Parks. Once again, we were amazed by what we saw.

At Capitol Reef, we saw Chimney Rock--a stack of rocks that stands all by itself, and petroglyphs--primitive rock drawings (see pictures). In Canyonlands, we saw more color combinations--there were some hills that looked gold and silver--quite a contrast from the reds we had been seeing. The canyon looked like a cartoon, splitting like a giant zipper. At Arches, we saw...you guessed it, arches. Tim and I did a little rock climbing to get to the middle of the Double Arches. I've become quite daring. (It's hard to see me in the picture because of the sun's angle.) Once again, Tim and I marveled at how these land formations were made--unbelievable.

Tim and I were surprised by the diverse landscapes of southern Utah. The array of colors, different elevations, and many land formations kept us interested until the very end. This evening we stopped in Grand Junction, Colorado, leaving one more state behind us.
