"There's a really good Thai restaurant within walking distance."
"Do you like Mexican? There's a really good Mexican restaurant around the corner."
"We want something that oozes Seattle."
"Well, you can go down 3rd Street where you'll see Captain Kidd's..."
His wife looked disgusted, "No, no, if you really want the Seattle experience, you have to eat on the water. Try Cutter's or Anthony's. Both are good."
The older gentleman surprised us both by shaking his head, scrunching up his nose, giving his wife "bunny ears," then breaking into a big grin.
We had asked an unsuspecting, older couple, their children, and their grandchildren where we should eat dinner. The couple was sitting on a bench taking in the beautiful evening. The children and grandchildren were wandering around at the small amusement park under the Needle. As the brood gathered around the matriarch of the family, each gave their opinion about where we should eat.
After making some small talk which included telling them we were from St. Louis, and finding out that the couple had just returned from Europe where they saw SIU sing in Glasgow, we thanked them for their suggestions and decided on Anthony's. The next task was to find it. We drove the shoreline and found it toward the south end. We parked on the street, and at 10:00 we finally settle down for dinner. I had a delicious cioppino; Tim got the Copper River salmon which was equally good (if not better). The sourdough bread was also notable--crispy-chewy crust, soft, tangy, warm interior, real butter (Deane, tell mom). We sat at a table right on Puget Sound. I do believe it was a "Seattle experience."
But wait. The evening was not over. We wanted to see the Seattle skyline at night. Tim was able to get us back up to our hill. While Mt. Rainier had retired for the evening, it was still a sight to be seen (so...look at the photo album). We drove to Olympia which was another hour and a half away, putting us in at 12:30 Saturday morning. Friday/Saturday was one of our busiest days.

Yum, I am so ready for that delicious sourdough bread. My mouth is watering.
Seattle is just as beautiful at night. Sounds like you all have hit the highlights.
Was the SIU mentioned the Salukis? As in MY SIU?
