Smoke

They're there. In the background. Behind the smaller ones in front. Great, big, towering mountains. You can't see them because they're covered by smoke.

That happened to us all day today. We knew the mountains were there because we saw them yesterday on the way up this road. How could something so massive just disappear? But if we were to believe our eyes today and hadn't been there yesterday, we would have told you there were no mountains. We stared hard into the haze, but we just couldn't see them.

Trust can be hard--especially when you can't see. But when you've been there before, and you know it's there, you trust. When you've been there before and you know he's there, you trust. When you're going through a hard time, you trust. When you've seen God move through difficult times, you trust that he will again, even when you can't see. He's bigger than the mountains. In fact, he made the mountains. :)

On the way out of Jasper, we wandered through town. We found their junior/senior high school. Pretty cool for a little town:

We also  noticed a sign that said there was a Jasper outdoor market. I don't know exactly what we were expecting, but this is what we found. Jasper is indeed a small town.

On the way out of the mountains, we saw a couple more bear, one up close, and one (not pictured) up on a mountainside.

On the way through Canmore, we stopped at our little bakery (Le Fournil) and picked up dessert before dinner. I forgot to take a picture of the little orange cake and the chocolate devil's food cake that Tim ordered. I did, however, take a picture of their to-go packaging--so cute!

Last thing on the menu this evening (pun intended) was dinner. We chose Native Tongue, a Mexican spot in Calgary. We got guacamole, a salsa sampler, and some mini tacos--brisket, carnitas, and chorizo and potato. The salsas were really good, a couple very different--peanut and chili oil and a sesame and jalapeno.

Okay, peeps, that's all from the Great White North!
